Body Parts

Yesterday was a typical Saturday. The day started at Starbucks and then errands with the whole family. After lunch, my husband took our daughter to another Birthday party. I stayed home to give the baby a nap, clean the bathrooms and finish my book. After the short nap, the two of us went to the bookstore to get the 3rd book in the series I am reading. Upon my return, the other half of the family was home. Later, we ventured to dinner with my folks. It was going to be an early night for the children, both were tired from playing hard or a short nap. The minute we walked in the house both children ran for the bathtub. They played in the tub while I folded the laundry and got ready for bed myself. My son's newest thing in the tub is to kick his legs to make waves. His sister thought it looked like fun and joined him, but in the process was kicking him. I asked her to stop, she replied, "I am playing with his penis." That is not a sentence that any parent wants to hear! I quickly explained to her that playing, touching or kicking other people's private parts was not allowed. There was no need to tell her what body parts are private, we have had that conversation many times. She said she would not do it anymore and moved on to dumping water on her brother's head. I was dwelling on what she said while her dad made some smart remark in the background. Her comment and my reply did not seem to phase her. At what age or stage in life does dwelling on things come into play? I guess I should be glad that she is not dwelling on private parts. That could lead to a whole another level of parenting.
