Certificate Headache
Well, I thought I would look into taking a class this summer. I have not taken a class since finishing my Masters and I need 15 credits by 2012 to keep my certificate to teach. I looked online at WWU and the local ESD, YIKES! First of all, it is very expensive! Secondly, it is a lot of time for very little credit. I found a class at WWU for $300 and I am sure that I have to pay for the credits too, but it is 5 days from 1 to 5. Who in their right mind wants to spend 5 afternoons in the middle of July in a classroom? This is a class for 2 credits and I was looking for a 5 credit one thinking I could take a class each summer for the next 3 summers and be done. Boy, was I wrong. With these kinds of classes it is going to take me forever to get 15 credits. I hope I can find some classes to take in the fall or winter too. I guess I should have looked into this awhile ago and had a few credits under my belt by now. I am going to have to pay for a babysitter too. Is this all worth it to keep my certificate? A job at Starbucks is sounding better by the minute.

Kim,
ReplyDeleteI have been able to keep up my certificate by taking video courses! They aren't cheap, but I could do them at home when the kids were sleeping. They are the Lee Canter courses through City University. They are 5 credits each. I took beginning reading and math, which was great as Abby was just entering into all that 4 years ago. :) Hope you find something that works for you. Tammy
I will frequent your coffe shops, and leave a good tip!!! Poor teachers have to go through so much "extra" work!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally think it's worth it as you just never know! I think it would be easier to take the courses & get a babysitter & keep up your cert than to lose it & need to use it.
ReplyDeleteYou can dooo it!
Ugh, I feel for you. I'd go Tammy's route. Babysitters five days a week for four hours a day are expensive, so you can add that to the cost of the class...and then you have all the work to do at night when you'd wish you could just hang with the fam. I've heard many good things re. City University and teachers. Jen
